How to Setup FoxyProxy & SwitchyOmega Extensions

Configure proxy switchers inside Chrome and Firefox to change IP addresses and route browser traffic with a single click.

1. Why Use Proxy Switcher Extensions?

By default, browsers like Google Chrome use your computer's global system proxy settings. Changing system-wide settings forces all computer traffic (background update checkers, games, email clients) through the proxy, which degrades performance and is highly inconvenient.

**FoxyProxy** and **SwitchyOmega** are standard browser extensions that solve this issue. They let you configure multiple proxies directly inside your browser. You can switch between proxies with a single click in your toolbar, bypass local filters, or set up rules to route only specific websites through proxy servers.

Linking **Turbo Proxy** SOCKS5 and HTTP gateways to these extensions provides lightning-fast IP switching directly in your Chrome or Firefox toolbar.

2. Setting Up Proxy SwitchyOmega

SwitchyOmega is highly popular for Chromium-based browsers (Chrome, Edge, Brave):

Step 1: Install the Extension

Go to the Chrome Web Store, search for Proxy SwitchyOmega, and click "Add to Chrome".

Step 2: Create a Proxy Profile

Once installed, the options page will open. Click on **"New profile"** in the left menu, select the profile type as "Proxy", and give it a name (e.g., "Turbo US Proxy").

Step 3: Enter Connection Settings

Select the protocol you want to use (SOCKS5 or HTTP) under the **Protocol** dropdown. Enter the settings:

  • Server: gate.turboproxy.online
  • Port: e.g., 7000

Click the padlock icon next to the Port field. Input your Turbo Proxy username and password credentials. Click **"Save Changes"**.

Step 4: Enable the Proxy

Click the circular SwitchyOmega icon in your browser toolbar. Select the profile you created ("Turbo US Proxy") from the popup list. The icon color will change, indicating that your browser is now routing through the proxy.

3. Setting Up FoxyProxy Standard

FoxyProxy is highly popular for Firefox users, but also available on Chrome:

Step 1: Install FoxyProxy

Go to Firefox Add-ons, search for FoxyProxy Standard, and click "Add to Firefox".

Step 2: Add a New Proxy Configuration

Click the FoxyProxy icon in your toolbar, and select **"Options"** (or gear icon). Click **"Add"** (or "+" icon) in the configuration panel.

Step 3: Input Server Credentials

Select **SOCKS5** or **HTTP** from the proxy type dropdown. Input:

  • Proxy IP address or DNS name: gate.turboproxy.online
  • Port: e.g., 7000
  • Username & Password: Enter your dashboard credentials.

Click **Save**. To turn the connection on, click the FoxyProxy toolbar icon and choose the proxy name from the list.

Troubleshooting Common Connection Issues

1. Error: "DNS name resolution failed"

In SwitchyOmega or FoxyProxy settings, check the SOCKS5 configuration options and enable **"Resolve DNS queries through proxy"** to prevent local DNS leakages.

2. Connection Refused or Blank Page

Verify that you do not have other VPN apps or proxy extensions active. Running multiple network-redirecting extensions at the same time will cause conflicts.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between FoxyProxy and SwitchyOmega?
Both are proxy switcher extensions, but SwitchyOmega is more popular on Chrome/Edge and supports PAC scripts and auto-switch profiles. FoxyProxy is the go-to choice for Firefox and also has a Chrome version. Both support SOCKS5 and HTTP proxy types.
Can I set different proxies for different websites in SwitchyOmega?
Yes. SwitchyOmega's 'Auto Switch' profile allows you to define URL patterns and assign a different proxy (or direct connection) to each. For example, you can route only social media sites through the proxy while keeping other traffic direct.
Does SwitchyOmega support SOCKS5 authentication?
Yes. Click the padlock icon next to the proxy port field in SwitchyOmega's profile settings and enter your Turbo Proxy username and password. The credentials are stored locally in your browser profile.
Is FoxyProxy free to use?
Yes. FoxyProxy Standard and FoxyProxy Basic are free browser extensions. You only need to supply your own proxy server credentials (like Turbo Proxy) — the extension itself has no cost.
