How to Setup SOCKS5/HTTP Proxy on Android & iOS

Step-by-step native network configuration to route your smartphone's Wi-Fi traffic through Turbo Proxy residential and mobile networks.

1. Mobile Proxy Configurations

As mobile marketing, app development, local ad testing, and remote work surge, routing smartphone traffic through high-trust proxy networks has become standard practice. Emulating a local residential customer directly from a mobile device yields extremely high trust ratings on target security nodes.

Both Android and iOS operating systems support **native proxy configurations for Wi-Fi networks**. Setting this up allows all HTTP/HTTPS traffic from your browser (Chrome or Safari) and applications to pass through your proxy server.

Below we provide simple step-by-step instructions to connect your mobile devices to **Turbo Proxy**’s residential and mobile IP pools.

2. Setting Up Proxies on Android Devices

Follow these steps to configure manual proxies on Android systems:

Step 1: Open Wi-Fi Connections

Open your device's Settings app. Go to "Network & Internet" (or "Connections") and tap on "Wi-Fi".

Step 2: Modify Network Settings

Press and hold your active Wi-Fi connection name (or tap the gear icon next to it). Select "Modify network" (or "Manage network settings").

Step 3: Edit Proxy Option

Tap the **"Advanced options"** dropdown list. Find the **Proxy** section and change it from "None" to "Manual".

Step 4: Input Connection Details

Enter your Turbo Proxy details into the fields:

  • Proxy hostname: gate.turboproxy.online
  • Proxy port: e.g., 7000

Tap Save. Open Google Chrome on your device and load any website. A dialog box will appear asking for your username and password. Enter your proxy credentials to activate.

3. Setting Up Proxies on iOS (iPhone & iPad)

For Apple iOS devices, configure manual proxies as follows:

Step 1: Go to Settings

Open the Settings app on your iPhone. Tap Wi-Fi.

Step 2: Open Network Information

Tap the blue "i" (Information) icon next to your connected Wi-Fi network name.

Step 3: Configure Proxy

Scroll to the bottom of the details page. Under the **HTTP PROXY** section, tap "Configure Proxy".

Step 4: Manual Settings and Credentials

Select "Manual". Enter `gate.turboproxy.online` in the Server field, and your assigned port in the Port field.

Toggle the **Authentication** switch to On. Enter your proxy username and password. Tap Save in the top-right corner to activate.

Troubleshooting Mobile Connection Issues

1. Web Pages fail to load ("No internet connection")

Verify that you are using an HTTP/HTTPS port rather than a raw SOCKS5 port. iOS does not support SOCKS5 authentication natively inside the default Wi-Fi settings panel. For SOCKS5, use third-party client apps like **Shadowsocks** or **Potatso Lite**.

2. Password prompt does not show up

Ensure that you do not have active VPN profiles running. Toggle Wi-Fi Off and back On to force connection renegotiation with the proxy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Android/iOS native proxy setup support SOCKS5?
The native Wi-Fi proxy settings on Android and iOS only support HTTP/HTTPS proxies. For SOCKS5 on mobile, use a third-party app like Shadowsocks, Potatso Lite (iOS), or Proxifier (Android).
Does the mobile proxy apply to all apps or only the browser?
Native Wi-Fi proxy settings on both Android and iOS apply to most HTTP/HTTPS app traffic on that Wi-Fi network, but not to apps using UDP or proprietary network stacks. Some apps may ignore the system proxy entirely.
Can I use mobile proxies on cellular data (4G/5G)?
The native proxy UI only works for Wi-Fi connections. To proxy mobile data traffic, you need a VPN-based proxy app or a device with root access to configure global traffic routing.
What proxy type is recommended for iPhone?
HTTP proxy is recommended for iPhone's native settings since iOS does not support SOCKS5 authentication in the built-in proxy panel. For SOCKS5, use the Potatso Lite or Shadowrocket app from the App Store.
